Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Policies

Policy on Nondiscrimination

At Breakthrough Developmental Services we believe that everyone can learn, grow, and live a more independent life. Therefore, we affirm that individual patients shall have reasonable access to treatment or accommodations without regard to ethnicity, age, color, gender, religion, national origin, marital status, ancestry, citizenship, veteran status, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability or sources of payment for care.

Diversity Policy in Employment

Breakthrough Developmental Services (BDS) is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Employment, and applications for such, is considered without regard to regard to ethnicity, age, color, gender identification, gender expression, religion, national origin, marital status, ancestry, citizenship, veteran status, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability. All BDS employees have a responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect at all times.

What do these mean?

We believe in the peaceful and respectful coexistence of all. It’s is a priority that patients and employees feel comfortable here. Whether you celebrate Mawlid al-Nabi, Diwali, Yule, Chanukah, Las Posadas, Christmas, Kwanza or any other holiday you are welcome to work here or receive services here. We believe in respecting and maintaining the dignity of those who come to us for services and those who come to serve others.  We know that not everyone experiences life the same way, but you are living your experience with your own perspectives, likes, and wishes.

To help integrate this philosophy, we incorporate feedback from our patients and our patient parents into what we do. Recruitment is completed with regard to protected areas, plus others that are not considered protected. We work to develop, be, and maintain a safe space for BIPOC as well as LGBTQIA+. We believe in equal pay and we listen to what our employees have to say and maintain an open-door policy for our staff members.
